In a complicated CRM, tracking down record changes can be an overwhelming task. This is simply because you have to deal with different business roles, scripts, and workflow updates that can have an effect on field values. Thankfully, Microsoft Dynamics GP audit trails simplify things for users so they can easily track what's happening.
One of the biggest advantages of Microsoft Dynamics 365 audit trails is that it helps businesses stay compliant with regulations such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Audit logs help administrators find out how users move around in Dynamics 365 or Dynamics GP. It can also be used to resolve critical issues such as identifying the value previously held in a field before it was updated, finding out who deleted a specific record, finding out which users accessed the system, and monitoring recent actions taken by users.
How to set up audit trails for your organization?
Audit trails can be set up by users who have permissions equivalent to a system admin or a customizer security role. They need to:
Go to Settings, then Administration, and then they need to choose System Settings.
Thereafter, they need to choose the Auditing Tab and click on the Start Auditing checkbox. This will then initiate the audit process for a Dynamics 365 instance within an org.
Once this has been done, the user needs to look for Enable Auditing by clicking all the boxes for which they want to enable auditing.
Now, the user needs to navigate back to Settings and then proceed to Customization -> Customize the System.
Now, entities that need to be tracked should be picked such as audit user access, common entities, and sales entities.
Now, click on the boxes for Single Record Auditing and Multiple Record Auditing on the auditing tab.
The last step is all about clicking on Save and then choose to Publish the customizations.
